March 8th is International Women’s Day and we really want to recognise just how far women have come in the past century. Then we’ll give you some tips that everyone — regardless of gender — can use when trying to figure out how to reduce anxiety around keeping your house clean while managing a busy and full lifestyle. Whether you’re working full-time, part-time, homeschooling the kids, have a busy social calendar, or whatever your day entails…these tips are for you.
The achievements of women over the past century
We all know women haven't had the easiest run historically. Today, however, women are thriving as entrepreneurs, doctors, freelancers, engineers, creative small business owners, mothers, partners, social butterflies, and within a billion other incredible roles. Here are a few of our favourite facts and statistics that highlight the achievements of women over the past century:
In 2021, the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania was the first school to admit more women than men for its MBA class of 2023, and this gender balance persisted in the following year. Source.
The proportion of mothers employed continues to increase. In 2022, both parents were employed in 71% of couple families with children under 15 years. This compares to 56% in 2000 and 40% in 1979. Source.
During the past year (2021-2022), the share of property purchases by women climbed by 0.9 percentage point to 28.3 percent from 2020. Over the same period, the proportion of homes bought by men dropped by a similar amount to 29.6 per cent. The remainder of the purchases is by couples. Source.
How incredible! Now, let’s jump back to cleaning tips…
How to ease anxiety over housework
Anxiety caused by housework is a real problem. Regardless of gender, it can be difficult to keep a spotless home when you’re trying to balance your career and quality of life. Here are some ideas that can help you figure out how to keep your house clean while juggling a busy life.
1. Create a daily cleaning schedule
Nothing helps more with staying on top of the household cleaning than having a schedule that clearly outlines tasks, due dates and who is responsible for them.
2. Stock up on basic cleaning supplies
When you have the basics on hand, you’re much more likely to clean when cleaning is needed. We recommend: a trusty multi-purpose cleaner, a handy shower squeegee, and, of course, a set of quality cleaning cloths.
3. Don’t try to do it all yourself
Enlist the help of your partner, housemates, children — whoever is living under the same roof can pitch in. Children should be assigned age-appropriate chores like keeping their room tidy and packing up toys after playtime.
4. Sort chores into ‘simple’ and ‘difficult’ categories
Knowing which cleaning chores you can take care of quickly will make it easier to add them to your daily/weekly cleaning schedule to keep on top of them regularly.
5. Invest in the right cleaning products
But how do you know which cleaning products are ‘the right ones’? Well, we have a whole online store full of them! From nanocoat protection to miracle mould removal gel and everything in between, GLASSGUARD has got you covered.
So, let’s celebrate this International Women’s Day by reflecting on just how amazing women are (and have always been), but also by making our lives easier — regardless of our gender — and using the tips above to help reduce the anxiety that comes with having to keep a household clean.
