Work, hobbies, family time, travel and all the other things we get up to in this busy day and age tend to fill our schedules, leaving not a lot of room for other things that are less pressing, yet still important…like cleaning. So, we’ve put together a list of the top 7 things you can do to make it easier to find time in your hectic schedule to keep your house clean and tidy.
1. Clean as you go
Rather than letting things pile up over time, clean as you go. For example, instead of leaving that dirty cup next to your bed, take it with you and wash it next time you need to head to the kitchen.
2. Declutter every 3-4 months
Kitchens, bedrooms, spare rooms and garages tend to be the places where we collect the most ‘stuff’. If you set aside one day every few months to go through your closets, cupboards and other storage spaces, you might find unused items you can donate or set aside for the next curbside pickup instead of keeping them in your house to gather dust.
3. Use technology to your advantage
If you can, invest in a robotic vacuum cleaner and/or mop to help tidy in between big cleans. You can also look into different apps that can help track your cleaning schedule and remind you when your next clean is due.
4. Don’t try to do it all yourself
If you can, get the entire family or housemates to take a look at this list so they can start using these tips as well. You shouldn’t be the only one in charge of keeping things clean, unless you live alone, in which case, you should only be looking after your mess anyway.
5. Proritise
Like most jobs, cleaning successfully is a matter of prioritisation. Work out which areas in your home need the most attention and focus on them (likely kitchens and bathrooms that are used often). Once they’re sorted, move on to areas that may only need a little dust off every so often.
6. Use multi-purpose cleaners
Using multipurpose cleaners can help cut down on cleaning time immensely as you’re not having to change from one product to the other as you move through the house. It can also help you save space in your home.
7. Develop a schedule and stick to it
Having a cleaning schedule will help you manage your time more effectively. You can work around your work/personal schedule and assign different rooms to different days so cleaning the house doesn’t seem like such a massive task.
Just because you’re busy, doesn’t mean you need to let the tidiness of your house suffer. Hopefully these tips will help!
